It happened in the mid-terms. Maddy, bestowed with the poetic prowess and with the blessings of the creators above, was engulfed in happier days. He had comfortably forgotten the monster called Mathematics. Some credit is due to his teacher, Ms. Roman (and yes, that's a real name). She made mathematics simpler for him. His philosophies in the English classes were a confidence booster (and not to mention the beautiful teacher).
The mid-term results were a breeze, by far the best of his entire year. He was back to being one of the top three rankers. A student in the "cream section" topping the class was an icing on the cake.
And then Maddy turned sixteen, and the magic of sweet sixteens started kickin'in. It came with the same gusto like it did for Archie Andrews. The underdogs of the cream section were his new friends. They were different, and enjoyed life. If you've ever been amongst the most cramming class, you would know that even lunch breaks are full of Mathematics questions and Case Studies. But the underdogs brought with them lighter moments. Even in boring classes. The Boolean Algebra lectures were full of frolic. The last periods were spent discussing their joint dreams of making a movie.
He started having a bad case of mood swings. He also started noticing girls. Perhaps the testosterones kicked him harder than they did others. God hadn't been much kind.
And then they announced the Final Terms. Maddy's happy days were coming to an end...
